Presentations and a new Elementary School teacher were on the agenda at the December meeting of the Houghton-Portage Township School District Board of Education.
Being the last meeting this calendar year, the board was happy to see presentations from each of the schools.
At the elementary level, the board toured a kindergarten classroom and learned about the functionality and set up of a typical kindergarten day.
The middle school First Tech robotics team gave an update on their recent and upcoming competitions. The team plans to demonstrate their robot at a high school competition this spring.
The Houghton Choir stopped by before embarking on their annual neighborhood Christmas Carol walk and sang a few songs for the board. Choir alumni were also present to support the event.
The board approved hiring J.R. Repp as a new elementary school teacher, who will start immediately following Winter Break on January 4th.
The next Houghton-Portage Township School District Board of Education meeting is scheduled for January 18th.
