Final Meeting for Scott MacInnes

Tonight is a very significant city council meeting as City Manager Scott MacInnes officially steps down. MacInnes has been employed by the city of Houghton since 1974 and worked his way up to becoming City Manager in 1997. During his tenure, he has held every administrative position in the city. MacInnes will be giving a farewell speech of sorts at tonight’s meeting and then pass the torch to new City Manager Eric Waara.

The Houghton City Council does have business to take care of as well. Among the items on the agenda is a proposal to develop a SmartZone satellite program with the city of Marquette, who was interested in creating its own SmartZone program but the state of Michigan doesn’t allow it, unless municipalities decide to partner with other cities that already have existing SmartZones. Also up for approval is a payment to Bacco Construction for their work on the water and sewer project last summer and a proposal to require two signatures for any pay request from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
