Food insecurity is when you’re not sure if you and your family will have enough to eat.
It affects nearly 17 percent of those living in Houghton County and more than 18 percent in Baraga County.
Finlandia University’s Campus Ministry is teaming up the Western U.P. Food Bank and Feeding America to help those people bridge the gap between meals.
Finlandia’s Director of Servant Leadership Rene Johnson said, “This is a Feeding America truck and it’s coming to use our parking lot to distribute 15,000 pounds of food to people in our community.”
The Mobile Food Pantry will have enough for 300 families to receive 50 pounds of rescued food at no cost and without any income qualifications.
All they need to do is provide their name, address and the number of people in their household.
Food will be distributed on a first-come-first serve basis.
The event will take place at Old Main on Finlandia’s campus on Tuesday, October 20th starting at 5:00pm.
