Fatal Plane Crash in Wisconsin

A plane crash that originated in Menominee has taken the life of a Northern Michigan pastor. Clark County Sheriff Department officials identified the victim as 56-year old Pastor Martin Siegwart of the Boon Baptist church near Cadillac, MI. Two others were injured in the crash that happened near Owen, Wisconsin Monday morning. Authorities say the Cessna 182 began having problems and the pilot, Siegwart’s son, 27-year-old Mark Siegwart, circled the area and attempted to land in the town of Hoard. That’s when a wing hit a tree and caused the plane to crash into several other trees ending up in a ditch. Siegwart was pronounced dead at the scene. His son and the other passenger were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The flight originated in Menominee and was enroute to Minnesota when the wings iced over and subsequent crash occured when the wing struck the tree in an emergency landing attempt. Weather is listed as the factor in the crash.
