Fatal Hancock House Fire

Police continue their investigation into an incident Friday evening that resulted in the death of a Hancock man. Officers were called to a home on Summit Street. A woman told them her 50-year-old boyfriend was acting erratically… had assaulted her… that she had taken a gun away from him… and that he had more weapons in the house. Officers from the Hancock and Houghton Police Departments entered the home… and found the man on the floor of the basement, where he had started a fire. Police removed him from the home. He later died at Portage Health. The woman was treated for injuries and released. The Hancock Fire Department put out the fire. The identity of the man has not been released.
