Facade Project Complete–Recap Of The Houghton City Council Meeting

The 2013 Façade Project for businesses in downtown Houghton is now officially complete.

The city council wrapped up the project with a final public hearing at their regular meeting on Wednesday.

The project funded improvements for the Douglass Agency building, the Statewide Real Estate building, the Blue Iris Building and Joe Daavettila’s CPA building.

In total there more than $843,000 in façade improvements with about 75 percent of that coming in the form of a grant

Houghton City Manager Eric Waara said all of the projects came in on or below their budgets and were completed within their time limits.

In other business, Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly said Parade of Nations went relatively smoothly considering the bridge construction project going on.

His department is now preparing for the Homecoming activities this weekend as Michigan Tech hosts Northern Michigan University.

Officers from the Houghton Police Department will also be attending Domestic Violence Training today.
