Normally things are pretty quiet around here, but yesterday was an eventful day in the Upper Peninsula.
A Gwinn man is facing multiple charges after firing several shots at an unoccupied vehicle then eluding police in a vehicle for a time before taking off on foot.
41-year-old Kevin Leonard Houle was later arrested in a residence near the spot where the incident began that morning.
A 28-year old Marquette man is under evaluation following a standoff with police.
A shot had reportedly been fired inside the home. The man’s girlfriend left the residence before police arrived.
At first, the man barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to talk to police.
Marquette City Police Chief Mike Angeli said after contact had been made, they were able to convince the man to come out of the house on his own.
Police are also searching for a suspected bank robber who may have crossed over into the U.P. from Wisconsin.
The robbery happened Tuesday afternoon in the Village Wausaukee in Marinette County.
He is described as six feet tall, thin build, late 20’s or 30’s. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, grey shoes, grey sweatshirt, orange reflective/mirrored glasses and a ball cap with a black front, white back and orange lettering.
He is believed to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact police.
An electrical short in a child’s bedroom is being blamed for a fire at an Ishpeming family’s home.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the 12-year old child’s room but the rest of the house suffered smoke and water damage.
The family, which included the child and three adults, was able to get out of the house safely.
