Environmental Movie and Discussion at PLDL

The Portage Lake District Library is inviting the public to join the Copper Country Recycling Initiative (CCRI) and the Michigan Technological University Center for Science and Environmental Outreach for an Earth Day film screening and discussion at the library on Monday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m.

The film is entitled Death by Design: The Dirty Story of Our Digital Addiction, and shows the dark side of our ever growing use of electronic devices from smartphones to personal computers.

A discussion will follow the film and information about new, state certified and secure electronic waste recycling that has returned to the Keweenaw will be announced. The Copper Country Recycling Initiative, in partnership with Goodwill Industries, MTU, and the cities of Houghton and Hancock, recently received funding from the Michigan DEQ for local electronic waste recycling. Spring and fall collection events are planned for 2018 in addition to the development of two permanent collection sites at local Goodwill stores.
