End Of Tax Season Should End IRS Scams

Less than a week remains to get your taxes filed if you haven’t already done so.  Hopefully, the end of tax season will also mean the end to the current IRS Scam that is targeting local residents.

Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly said that scammers have tried to pull the wool over at least 20 residents in the city and about 40 in the area, and many more attempts have gone unreported.

The scam involves someone calling a resident and threatening them with prison if they do not pay back taxes.  The IRS never calls people like this and never uses the police to force payment of taxes.

Residents who receive a call like this are asked to call their local police department.
