When it comes to the number of drunk driving arrests in Michigan, the Copper Country tends to rank about in the middle. The website MLive reviewed arrest data for 2015 for every county in the state. They created an apples-to-apples comparison by averaging that number per 10,000 drivers. The lowest in the state was Schoolcraft County, with just 18 arrests per 10,000 drivers. The highest was Mackinac County, with 95 arrests per 10,000 drivers. Out of 83 counties in Michigan, Houghton was 37th-best, Keweenaw 38th, and Baraga 49th. Over the past decade, arrests for drunk driving and crashes caused by drunk driving have decreased by more than one-third, and crashes caused by drunk drivers have fallen by 30 percent statewide.
