Drop In Deer Hunters Hurting U.P. Economy

The Upper Peninsula Habitat Workgroup has met to develop some deer winter management plans.

The deer herd has suffered catastrophic losses in recent years.

Former DNR Agent Jim Hamill says deer are big business in the Upper Peninsula and since 2000, there has been a drop of 44% in deer hunters.

Hamill says the loss of deer has caused great economic hardship in the region.
