The “Drill Shop” was built by the Calumet & Hecla Mining Company in 1885. Calumet Township purchased the building in 2004 after it had sat empty for many decades. The Copper Country Curling Club uses a section of the building during the winter months.
Calumet Township plans to transform the entire Drill Shop building into a year-round activity and curling center.
Once the project is completed:
the facility will be handicapped accessible throughout,
a large barrier free bathroom will be added,
a large community room will be added within the building,
3 large “activity bays” will be developed to accommodate: a hockey shooting & goal tending area, a batting and pitching area for baseball and softball, and two horse shoe courts
