Washington, D.C- The Blind American Veterans Foundation presented an award to Congressman Dan Benishek today in order to recognize his work to assist vulnerable veterans across the nation.
Specifically, the George “Buck” Gillispie Congressional Award honors Dr. Benishek’s introduction of legislation to extend the definition of “homeless veteran” to cover those fleeing domestic abuse.
Also receiving the award was Rep. Janice Hahn, who co-introduced the legislation.
“Our bill says to those veterans who are homeless because they’ve made the brave choice to flee from domestic violence that you’re not alone. This country remembers your service and we will not let you down,” said Dr. Benishek. “I am honored to be recognized by the Blind American Veterans Foundation. I look forward to advancing their mission through my work in Congress.”
“We appreciate Dr. Benishek’s work in Congress on behalf of all veterans, especially those with disabilities,” said John Fales of the Blind American Veterans Foundation.
