Downstate Woman Arrested For Transporting Drugs Into The U.P.

A downstate woman has been arrested on multiple drug charges after an investigation into the distribution of cocaine, marijuana, and prescription pills in Luce County.

Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team say that during the investigation, they identified 32-year-old Meagan Leann Cruz of Grand Rapids as a suspect who was allegedly transporting narcotics into Luce County.

Detectives believed Cruz was planning to distribute the narcotics to an inmate housed at the Newberry Correctional Facility.

On July 9th, detectives located Cruz driving on Borgstrom Road in the Village of Newberry.

Michigan State Police Troopers from the 8th District Hometown Security Team stopped her vehicle and found cocaine, marijuana, and nearly 200 prescription pills during a search.

Cruz was arrested and is lodged at the Luce County Jail.

She was arraigned July 13th in Luce County District Court on one count of delivery of a schedule I, II, or III controlled substance, two counts of possession of cocaine, and one count of delivery of marijuana.
