The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is expected to arrest a man the agency says shot a mother black bear who had her cubs in tow.
M-Live reports the man, in his mid-20’s, has a permit to hunt bear and was hunting legally however it’s illegal to shoot a mother bear who is with her cubs.
The bear was reportedly shot last week in Colfax Township, which is southwest of Traverse City.
Shooting a mother bear who is with her cubs is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine or a short stint in jail.
A hunter could also lose their license for up to four years.
