There’s still time to suggest a name for Michigan’s newest trail from Detroit to Ironwood, but don’t wait too long – the deadline is Monday. The landmark trail features a hiking and a bicycling route, both of which will connect existing trails in a more-than-1,000-mile trek across the state. The Department of Natural Resources says it already has received more than 5,000 submissions, including a number of duplicate suggestions. People can submit their ideas by submitting a Survey Monkey response, posting on the DNR’s Facebook page or by mailing in a paper entry form available on the state’s website. DNR officials say submissions will be judged on creativity, originality and ability to capture the overall character of Michigan. The official name will be announced in early December. If multiple people submit the same winning name, a single winner will be randomly chosen from among those entries. The winner will be offered a choice of several vacation prize packages at locations along the trail.
