DNR Lookin for Moose Poachers

The Michigan DNR is looking for information about a moose poaching case in Baraga County. The DNR says the bull moose carcass was found last Saturday. Conservation officers believe the moose was killed in late November along Heart Lake Road in the Three Lakes area, near Petticoat Lake Road. Logging is taking place along Heart Lake Road, and officers involved in the case say road hunting violations have been reported in the area. Moose hunting is illegal in Michigan. Anyone convicted of poaching a moose can serve up to 90 days in jail, pay a fine of up to $1,000 or both. Convicted moose poachers also lose all hunting privileges for four years and may also have to pay of to $1,500 in restitution to the DNR. The DNR is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the poacher or poachers. Anyone with information can contact the department in a variety of ways:

— by calling the DNR’s Report All Poaching Hotline at 1-800-292-7800,
— by calling the DNR’s Law Enforcement Division in Marquette at (906) 228-6561, or
— by reporting the information online at www.michigan.gov/conservationofficers.

The DNR allows people to provide poaching information anonymously.
