The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is keeping an eye on nonresident fishing license sales following a fee restructuring.
DNR spokesman, Ed Golder, says they noticed a decline in nonresident customers last year after the cost of an out-of-state all-species license increased to $76, up from $42 in 2013.
According to DNR data, non-resident customers fell nine-point-five percent over that period.
Golder says the DNR reacted by lowering the fee to $68 this year, which is still higher than other states. But, he notes, Michigan is abundant of fishing opportunities.
He says they will see how customers react to the cost restructuring and make adjustments if needed.
