DNR Finds Suspected Case of Chronic Wasting Disease in Clinton Co

The Department of Natural Resources says they have found a suspected case of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in a deer in Clinton County.

DNR spokesman Chad Stewart says, if confirmed, the deer in Watertown Charter Township would be the 5th case of CWD in Michigan.

Earlier this month, the DNR confirmed a deer from Clinton County’s DeWitt Township tested positive for the disease.

Three other infected free-ranging deer in Ingham County were confirmed to have CWD earlier this year.

Since May, the DNR has tested nearly 4,000 deer for CWD, a neurological disease that causes erratic behavior in deer and elk and eventual death.

It can’t be spread to people.
