The governor has tapped Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Director Keith Creagh to oversee the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) as it goes through a leadership transition.
The move follows Tuesday’s resignation of Dan Wyant as head of the DEQ, following a report by the state auditor general that suggests the DEQ mismanaged the handling of the Flint water crisis.
The preliminary report said corrosion control should have been part of the process when changing Flint’s water source from the Detroit system to the Flint River.
The switch is blamed for a spike in lead in Flint water.
The city was under state management when the decision to change its source was made.
Natural resources deputy Bill Moritz will serve as interim director of the DNR.
