Much like you use different means to get weeds out of your yard the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is prepping to rid some of the state’s waterways of invasive plants.
The U-S Fish and Wildlife Service recently gave the DNR the green light to use herbicides to get rid of some of the plants.
Others will be pulled out by hand.
The agency is targeting plants like flowering rush, parrot feather and water lettuce.
The DNR’s Joanne Foreman says the plants, which don’t sound threatening, can easily take over an ecosystem pushing other food sources out.
