Local lawmakers are still sounding off on the Michigan legislature’s decision on how to fix the roads. A proposal to increase the Michigan sales tax by 1% will be on the statewide ballot in May, which didn’t sit well with Representative Scott Dianda, who voted against the plan because he says it shouldn’t be left up to the people.
Dianda adds that he would’ve voted for the tax increase, if it included some provisions that took a closer look at how the Michigan Department of Transportation spends its money.
Earlier this month, Dianda wrote an open letter to MDOT, criticizing their use of travel expenses and administrative costs. MDOT responded that the agency has been very proactive about becoming efficient.
