Canada’s Enbridge Energy is responding to questions from state officials about its pipeline that runs under the Mackinac Straits. The Michigan Petroleum Pipeline Task Force is just releasing the details now of the meeting with Enbridge officials in late September. The company vowed to inspect the pipelines using a remote-controlled vessel every two years, and added their testing and inspection of the 61-year-old pipeline shows it’s maintaining 99-percent of its original integrity. Enbridge officials said the two pipelines could continue to safely deliver crude oil and natural gas through the Straits for several more decades.
