As lawmakers in the Michigan Senate weigh a bill to allow concealed carry in schools and hospitals – as opposed to open carry — Democrats in the Michigan House are pushing a measure to do the opposite.
The bill to do away with open carry is part of a series of gun control bills Democrats are hoping gain some traction.
Another measure would create a gun violence restraining order, which would allow police to take someone’s guns away if they threaten their husband, wife or a significant other.
Other bills would call for background checks for people who buy guns at gun shows.
Most of the bills in the package were introduced this month but haven’t had a committee hearing yet in the Republican controlled House.
