Democrats and a few interest groups want the governor to veto a bill that passed the Michigan House and Senate just before lawmakers wrapped up their work for 2015.
The legislation, which impacts how schools can communicate information on millages and when political campaigns have to disclose their donors – among other things, cleared both chambers shortly before the legislature adjourned for the year.
House Democratic Leader Tim Greimel says the campaign finance bill was changed, and doubled in length, minutes before it was voted on last Wednesday.
It prohibits schools from sending out information on millages, using taxpayer dollars, within 60 days of an election.
The bill also does away with a February campaign finance filing deadline, which means it will be months after the November election before we know who gave what to political candidates.
