Defense and Homeland Security Contracts Boost Michigan's Economy

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is expanding its efforts in the multi-billion dollar defense and homeland security economy in Michigan.

Sean Carlson, vice president of the Michigan Defense Center, part of the MEDC, says over 4,000 Michigan companies are defense and aerospace contractors.

Carlson says that over 80-percent of Michigan’s counties are home to department of defense operations that need to stay at home.

Carlson says Michigan plays a very important role in Homeland Security and the defense industry offers strong economic benefits to the state.
