Creators Of The Keweenaw Peninsula App Come Home With Their Prize

 

The Keweenaw Peninsula App brings all of the information a visitor to the area would need with or without cell phone service.

The app, developed by the Keweenaw Convention and Visitors Bureau, was selected as one of four finalists to take part in the 2015 Connected Project Awards at the Connect Michigan Broadband Conference in Lansing.

Representatives from the Bureau and the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce presented the app at the conference.

Social Media Marketing Manager for the Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau Amanda Oppe said, “Everybody at the conference was really excited about the app. I talked to so many people who had either been here, had kids at Michigan Tech, or had just come here as a kid and they’ve all downloaded the app and say that they love it and can’t wait to come up and use it.”

After the presentation, votes were cast by those in attendance as well as by text messages for those watching the live stream of the conference.

The Keweenaw Peninsula App received the most votes.

Oppe said, “We won a grant for a $1,000 to help promote the app. We plan on getting some nice signs for some of our local hotels and some window clings for our gas stations and restaurants and then we also worked with the Chamber in Houghton to develop a Welcome Card for visitors.”

The Keweenaw Peninsula App has been downloaded over 3,100 times. It’s available now at the App Store and Google Play.
