COVID-19 Claims 1st Upper Peninsula Victim

COVID-19 has claimed the 1st person in Michigan’s Western Upper Peninsula.

The Individual who passed away, was an elderly Gogebic County man, with underlying health issues.

Kate Beer, Western Upper Peninsula Health Department Health Officer said “Our heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to the family who have lost their loved one. This is a tragic reminder of how serious a threat COVID-19 is to our residents, especially the elderly and those with underlying health conditions. We need to work together to protect each other, support each other, and slow the spread of this disease.”

Beer went on to remind residents to follow Governor Whitmer’s “Stay Home Stay Safe” Order, practice social distancing when out in public and to wash hands frequently.

The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department continues to work with federal, state and local officials, to slow the spread of COVID-19.
