Courthouse Where Shooting Took Place To Reopen

The Berrien County Courthouse will re-open today, two days after two bailiffs and a prisoner were shot to death.

Sheriff Paul Bailey says extra deputies will be in the building to make sure everyone feels safe.

Grief counselors are also available for court employees.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused inmate Larry Gordon to grab a deputy’s gun and shoot bailiffs Joe Zangaro and Ron Kienzle to death and wound deputy James Aderberry.

Meantime, while there is some call for metal detectors in all courts, State Senator Rick Jones who chairs the Judiciary Committee says administrators in each court should be able to make their own decision about security.
