County Board Squelches Rumor Of Privatizing Houghton County Medical Care Facility

The Houghton County Board of Commissioners is looking at options concerning the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

The topic to discuss the upcoming millage renewal was on the agenda at Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting.

Commissioner Tim Palosaari said he wanted the board to discuss the question of the fairness of the facility receiving both government and private funds.

Keweenaw County Commissioner Del Rajala addressed the board after hearing a rumor that privatizing the Houghton County Medical Care Facility was being considered.

Rajala was assured that privatization had not been discussed though the board was looking at the rate and length of the millage.

The topic was tabled until the next meeting.
