Copper Country United Way Announces Campaign Results and Appoints New President

Houghton, MI (April 19, 2016) – The Copper Country United Way Board of Directors announced the results of its 2016 campaign at its annual meeting.  This year’s campaign raised $96,830 to help support health and human service programs throughout Houghton and Keweenaw counties.  United Way’s annual campaign is one of the community’s largest fundraising efforts supporting agencies that provide free or low cost services to thousands of Copper Country residents; and the Board of Directors wants to thank everyone who contributed this year: the schools, universities, hospitals, businesses, and individuals.

In addition to the campaign announcement, Copper Country United Way (CCUW) held officer elections.  The 2016 Board elected Lori Weir as President of the Board and Heather Sanders as Treasurer.  They join Scott Rubich, who will continue his term as Vice President.

Weir, Communications Specialist at Michigan Technological University, has served on the CCUW Board of Directors for 2 years, most recently holding the position of Treasurer.  Weir has also served the local community in a variety of roles including Assistant Race Director for the CopperDog 150, Grant Writer & Assistant Program Manager for the Calumet High School Drama Club, and Recording Secretary for the Portage Lake District Library.  “She brings a wealth of marketing, event planning, and fundraising experience with her, and we look forward to her expertise and enthusiasm as we move forward,” said Scott Rubich, CCUW Board Vice President.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve alongside so many dedicated professionals, to work with such caring and devoted Partner Agencies, and now to lead CCUW into the future,” said Weir. “Great things start with great people.  Our community is full of great people and together we do make a difference.”

Although the next campaign doesn’t start until September, the Copper Country United Way is seeking individuals to get involved by becoming members of the Board of Directors.  If you are interested in learning more about serving on the CCUW Board, please contact them by email atccunitedway@gmail.org
