Copper Country Cycling Club’s Annual Color Tour Enters the 50th Year

There’s not much quite like an autumn tour of the Copper Country’s colors. Currently, the Copper Country Cycling Club has nearly completed planning for the 50th annual  Fall Color Tour. Color Tour Director Evan Erspamer says that the event has included bringing together many people over the years, including travelers coming in from outside the state, residents, and Michigan Tech students.

That is prime time for the colors. I mean, the name kind of suggests it, right? And it’s in previous years, I know last year, especially it was, it was really beautiful. It was a nice sunny day which we hope is going to be sunny again. But there are nice colors, all the reds and the yellows and the oranges and the trees as you’re riding through the Keweenaw. – Evan Erspamer, Color Tour Director, Copper Country Cycling Club

2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the fall color tour. It also marks the second year of the dirt dieter ride during the event. Which offers participants exploration of the backcountry, and extensive trail riding.

And then there is one section that is a lot of sand. I’ve heard that it’s a pretty, pretty brutal ride. And it’s, I believe last year we did a thing where there’s a sort of winner for it. And at the after party, there was a prize for the winner of the route. And so I think that’s, that kind of describes the Dirty Dieter. And then those other routes and people can choose their distance. One of them kind of goes up through Calumet and Lake Linden and a little further than that. Then another one goes out to about Gay and Allouez. And then the final one, the big one, the exciting one, goes all the way to Copper Harbor, where there are gonna be pasties available, just like last year. – Evan Erspamer, Color Tour Director, Copper Country Cycling Club

The Copper Country Cycling Club does ask riders and motorists to keep a watchful eye out for one another and travel with care. The club plans to post signage to help guide road cyclists along the different routes to end destinations. At the end of the day the club and participants will meet at the Keweenaw Brewing Company to celebrate the 50th year of the fall color tour with the Copper Country Cycling Club.
