Copper Country Association of School Boards Hosts Q&A Session with Local Legislators and Education Leaders

Direct communication between educators and state representatives are important space where conversations can start. Recently the Copper Country Association of School Boards hosted a Q and A session with western Upper Peninsula representatives and area educational leaders. The session included administrators, local school board members, a staff member of U.S. Representative Jack Bergman’s office, Senator Ed McBroom, Representative Greg Markkanen, and Representative Jenn Hill. The group was able to host constructive discussions around several topics related to issues school districts are facing, particularly for those in rural settings.

State Senator Ed McBroom says that forms of direct communication between those working in education and their representative, such as the recent session, are important to affecting change and creating policies that benefit the education of Michigan’s students.

Representative Markkanen echoed McBroom’s statement, emphasizing face-to-face interactions to receive feedback from educators, district leaders, and staff to let the state know what policies are making the largest difference in schools.
