Hancock and Dollar Bay-Tamarack City districts both held school board meetings on Monday night, with construction being a primary focus. Hancock Superintendent Steve Patchin says work will be done at the entrances of the elementary and high school in his district. There is some deterioration in front of Barkell, while Hancock Central has issues with erosion causing concrete tiles to become uneven. Patchin says there is also a brick paver project in the works for the high school entrance. Each brick will be available for etching, so that the name of a sponsor can be put engraved. The money will go towards a host of different entities and clubs.
January is school board appreciation month, and also traditionally the time for reorganizations. Patchin lists the officer changes for 2021.
Superintendent Christina Norland provided an update on the Dollar Bay construction project through email. Project manager Tim Seppanen announced the completion of new staff offices. The final phase involves a new preschool and boiler.
