Governor Rick Snyder has signed legislation that imposes tighter regulations on so-called “compounding pharmacies” in the state. The bills require properly licensed ‘pharmacists in charge’ to be on duty; more detailed record keeping of compounded drugs; regular inspections by state authorities; and criminal background checks for unlicensed pharmacists and those licensed prior to October 1, 2008. Snyder says the bills will help establish additional safeguards between patients and pharmacists helping ensure Michiganders remain safe and healthy.
