Coalition Wanting Help for Great Lakes

A coalition of environmental and conservation groups is calling on Congress to pass a bill designed to protect the Great Lakes. Legislation was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday that would authorize the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative at $300 million annually over the next five years. The initiative supports efforts to restore fish as wildlife habitat, clean up toxic pollution, reduce farm and city runoff, and fight invasive species. Todd Ambs of the Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition says his group is urging passage of the bill. The Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition says it’s made up of 120 environmental, conservation, outdoor recreation organizations, zoos, aquariums and museums representing millions of people, whose common goal is to restore and protect the Great Lakes.
