Coalition Backing Ballot Initiative to Require Earned Paid Sick Leave

A coalition of labor and faith organizations are launching a statewide ballot initiative to require earned paid leave for Michigan workers.

The Time to Care Coalition is backing the initiative which would allow workers to earn an hour paid sick leave for every 40 worked.

Coalition member Danielle Atkinson says, since the state doesn’t have this benefit, sick employees are going to work and parents are sending sick kids to school because they can’t afford to take time off.

The initiative follows the governor signing a bill last month banning local governments from requiring paid sick leave.
