The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department has identified the Michigan Tech student who fell off a cliff near Cliff Drive last evening. 18-year-old Michael Gobeli of Winnetka, Illinois, was climbing with a group of friends. Deputies say he apparently reached the top of the cliff first. His friends saw him fall off, but couldn’t tell why he lost his balance. Gobeli fell about 150 feet. He was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw for treatment, and then transferred to Marquette General, where he’s listed in serious condition.
