Michigan traffic safety advocates are reporting a drop in citations during a statewide seat belt enforcement effort surrounding the Memorial Day Holiday this year, but continue to urge motorists to buckle up to save lives and reduce injuries. Preliminary reports indicate law enforcement officers from nearly 160 local police departments, sheriff offices and Michigan State Police posts in 40 counties conducted more than 13,700 traffic stops resulting in over 7,700 seat belt and child restraint citations during the Click It Or Ticket enforcement campaign. There were over 9000 citations issued for seat belt and child restraint violations during a similar effort in 2013.
