What will become of the Kirkish Building in downtown Houghton?
Houghton City Manager Eric Waara gave an update to the City Council at their regular meeting on Wednesday.
Waara said the owner of the building, Adventure Properties, LLC, has been meeting with contractors and the insurance company to discuss options.
The bottom two floors of the building appear to be in good shape.
The results of environmental testing for asbestos are expected soon, after which efforts to dispose of the fallen debris can begin.
In the meantime, the lane closure of Shelden Avenue will remain possibly through next week.
The apartment building next to the Kirkish building was also extensively damaged. No one was hurt and the tenants have been relocated.
