The House Transportation and Infrstructure Committee has made an amendment to a bill that will dramatically change how road funding in Michigan is distributed. Representative Scott Dianda offered the amendment, which would increase the amount of Michigan Transportation Fund revenues that local governments receive from the state. Dianda’s plan would make a larger percentage of the MTF go to local road commissions as well as cities, villages and townships, and away from the budget of the Michigan Department of Transportation. Dianda says he isn’t supporting any raising of taxes unless reforms are instituted at MDOT. The amendment was adopted on an 8 to 4 vote.
