CCISD To Hire Literacy Coach To Help Students Pass 3rd Grade Reading Assessment–Recap of CCISD Board Meeting November 17, 2015

The Copper County Intermediate School District will be hiring a Literacy Coach to meet new requirements being set by the state.

At their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, the Board held a lengthy discussion concerning the Michigan Department of Education Early Literacy funding that is available to all ISD’s in the state.

The Board approved applying for the funds and a Literacy Coach will be hired.

The Literacy Coach will focus on supporting K-3 teachers who have students not achieving at a level needed to pass the 3rd grade reading state assessment.

The CCISD will meet with all local elementary principals and superintendents to solicit feedback on how to best utilize a Literacy Coach and support the local schools.

In other business, the Michigan State Police awarded the CCISD with a certificate honoring the district for achieving a 100% pass rate for school bus safety inspection for the 2014-15 school year.

Our Lady of Mercy is in desperate need of nurse aides and asked the ISD to run an adult Certified Nurse Aide class in the fall, outside of the usually scheduled classes.

Tuition for six out of ten students taking the class will be paid for by Our Lady of Mercy, and the students will have full-time jobs immediately with the nursing home.
