Casperson Speaks on DEQ Head Search

Governor Rick Snyder will soon select a new director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

And the chairman of the Senate Natural Resources Committee, Senator Tom Casperson, says he will be sending names of those he feels would be a good fit.

Dan Wyant resigned as head of the DEQ, following a report that suggests the department mismanaged the handling of the Flint water crisis.

Casperson says he is looking for someone, like Wyant, who advanced policy rather than what he calls the radical environmental view.

Casperson feels the DEQ has been responsible for holding the state back in past years and doesn’t want the department to prevent future growth in the state.
