The Obama administration has thrown its support behind school’s adopting more inclusive policies regarding transgender students, but how will that affect schools in Michigan as they wrestle with the issue?
State Senator Tom Casperson, who opposes the policy of allowing students to use bathrooms and lockers rooms that correspond with the gender they identity with, says the President is threatening to take money away from local schools if they do not comply.
Casperson says his biggest issue with the proposal is that students will be able to choose their gender without involving the parents.
Casperson appeared before the Department of Education last week to argue against the proposed guidelines.
