Canal Run’s Blade Runner; Jake Jackovich

Jake Jackovich ran for five miles, running out of breath and grabbing too small water cups at each rest stop. But he kept pushing, around every bend in the road, all five miles starting at High Point Road. Jake was one of the many runners this weekend that participated in the 75th Canal Run. A marathon that is split into 10 mile and 5 mile races. Jackovich has been running in Canal Run for 4 years, and participates in his own category. Jackovich is a veteran and an amputee, which places him into the Blade Runner circuit.

I’d like to inspire anyone to run, its a great healthy thing to do. If I can inspire anybody, any runners and with the advances in prosthetics anyone can run if they have the desire. Well I think running has always gotten a bad rap, but there’s some great programs out there to get people started. I run all year round, in the winter, when its safe. But being outdoors on a morning run sometimes it’s just breathtaking. – Jake Jackovich

When talking with Jackovich, he is full of life and has a smile that is infectious.  He feels that everyone in his shoes should be inspired to keep pushing, a philosophy that has kept him going for many years now. His number one goal is to prove to people that they can be active and run too. Jake finished this year’s race at 48:40.06, a time to be proud of and one that can inspire others to get active as well. Congratulations Jake Jackovich on an impressive time and for being an inspiration to the community.
