Canadian Nuclear Waste Dump Site Postponed

A Michigan U.S. congressman is applauding Canada delaying its decision on a proposed nuclear waste dump near the shore of Lake Huron.

A Canadian environmental official is putting on hold plans for the site pending an environmental assessment decision.

U.S. Representative Dan Kildee, who opposes the proposal, says while they’re still a long way from stopping the nuclear waste storage facility on the shores of the lake, it’s an important step and he hopes the Canadian government will take a closer look before moving forward.

Kildee also says he’s pleased that Canada has indicated it will evaluate the potential for other sites to locate the waste facility.
