Campaign for Historic Trades Hosting a Masonry Workshop at the Keweenaw National Historical Park

Around the Upper Peninsula, many can walk past beautiful buildings with historic significance in the region. From several lighthouses to downtown storefronts, historic churches, and courthouses, many historic buildings need regular maintenance. Later in the month, the Keweenaw National Historical Park has set up a four-day historic masonry training workshop. The workshop will train individuals with hands-on experience working with lime, mortar, brick, and other types of stone. As well as share techniques for repointing, and ruck pointing. Skills built during the workshop will also share information for the Secretary of the Interior’s standards in preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation. Instructors Bruce Wright and Steve D’Agostino will share expert knowledge with those who want to learn about preserving masonry techniques used in historic preservation and rehabilitation. The workshop will cost 24 dollars for an individual. The workshop will take place over four days between September 30th and October 3rd. On the first day of the workshop participants will meet at the Park Headquarters at 25970 Red Jacket Road, in Calumet.
