State health officials Thursday began an annual campaign of encouraging Michigan residents to get flu vaccinations and have confirmed three cases of influenza in adults already in the 2014-2015 season. One case was identified by a state laboratory as H-1-N-1, one is H-3-N-2 and one is an Influenza-B virus. Officials add that influenza is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death – especially for infants and the elderly, and urge anyone six-months-of-age-and-older to get vaccinated. They also say each season is different and that’s why you need to get vaccinated each year, and do it early since it takes about two weeks to produce an immunity.
