A pair of CLK Schools are advancing to the next round in a science competition.
At the regional Science Olympiad, held at Northern Michigan University last weekend, 11 high schools and 12 middle schools from the Upper Peninsula competed against each other.
Calumet High School and Washington Middle School both took first place in their division.
Bessemer A.D. Johnson took second and Superior Central was third in the high school division, but in the middle school division, Superior Central was first and Bessemer A.D. Johnson was third.
Head coach and Washington Middle School science teacher Darrell Hendrickson says the competition takes learning about science to a whole new level.
All three teams from both divisions will head to the State Finals in Lansing on April 30th.
There, they will among 50 teams competing to move on to the nationals but only the top two teams in each class will make it.
Hendrickson said the best ever showing for a CLK School was Washington Middle School, which finished 11th in the state one year.
