Calumet High School to Fundraise for Cancer

Calumet High School is partnering, once again with Aspirus Keweenaw in fundraising efforts to support local cancer care.
This year, they’ve created a program called The Jersey Fund.

The program transpired out of CHS and Aspirus collaborating on the annual Mass-A-Cure event. Proceeds raised have helped purchase iPads and warming blankets for oncology patients to use while receiving treatments at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.

Fundraising efforts include student-organized activities and a jersey silent auction during the Copper Kings varsity hockey game Feb. 16. All proceeds benefit the Keweenaw Health Foundation’s Cancer Fund.

CHS students have organized fundraising activities to take place at school, from winning chances to throw a pie in a favorite teacher’s face to selling root beer floats and pink cream-filled doughnuts at lunch time. There’s also a “Jersey Day” where students and staff can dress in their favorite jersey for a $1 donation.

During the Copper Kings varsity hockey matchup against the Houghton Gremlins and the girls varsity basketball game against West Iron County, students will be selling chocolate kisses for donations.
Athletes will be gearing up in pink for both games to show their support of The Jersey Fund. Special sports jerseys will be auctioned off during the hockey game.

Calumet Copper Kings hockey game takes place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Calumet Colosseum, followed by the basketball game at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 at Calumet High School Gym. The Jersey Fund is being sponsored by: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Miron Construction Co. Inc., Pat’s Foods and Range Bank.
